  • Service Branch: United States Army
  • Service Dates: 1954–1956
  • Stationed: Fort Huachuca, Arizona
  • Rank: Private, First Class

At the age of nineteen I volunteered my draft for a 2-year commitment in the United States Army with 8 other members of my New Rochelle, New York high school graduating class. On October 8, 1954 we were inducted and I was sent to Fort Dix, New Jersey for ten weeks of basic training. A battery of tests was administered and it was determined that I was a good fit and would work well with coding.  After basic I was assigned to the (ASA) Army Security Agency, Fort Devens, Massachusetts for 6 months to learn Morse Code, 5 nights a week, midnight to eight in the morning. Upon completion I received a Top-Secret Classification and assigned to Fort Huachuca, Arizona to work with the Signal Corp.  This work was extremely interesting. Upon finishing my 2-year commitment I took advantage of the GI Bill and went to Iona College (now University) graduating with a BBS degree in 1959.
