Londonderry Hosts Book Talk and Signing by Resident Author, Dr. John Foss
Easton, Md. – On February 22nd, Londonderry on the Tred Avon welcomed resident and author, Dr. John Foss, for a book talk and signing of his work, If Houses Could Talk.
In this unique book, houses serve as narrators, sharing their own histories and the lives of their inhabitants. Accompanied by photographs, these stories offer readers a distinctive glimpse into the past, blending architecture with personal narratives.
“Dr. Foss’s book and presentation were fascinating,” said Christine Harrington, CEO of Londonderry on the Tred Avon. “One of the best things about our community is being surrounded by remarkable individuals who have led such interesting lives. Dr. Foss’s inspiration for If Houses Could Talk stems from his career as a soil scientist, during which he traveled the world studying soil conditions at archaeological sites. Over the years, he developed a habit of imagining the stories behind the structures he encountered, sharing them with friends and colleagues who encouraged him to compile them into a book.
Originally from Wisconsin, Dr. Foss holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota. His academic career includes teaching and research positions at institutions such as the University of Maryland and North Dakota State University. He has authored numerous research publications and conducted soil-geological studies at archaeological sites across the United States and internationally, including in Italy, Tunisia, Albania, and Guatemala. His accolades include being named a Fellow in the American Society of Agronomy, the Soil Science Society of America, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
