Londonderry on the Tred Avon Celebrates 35 Years of Waterfront Living, Community, and Independence
Easton, Md. –Londonderry on the Tred Avon, the Eastern Shore’s premier resident-owned retirement cooperative community, is celebrating 35 years of waterfront living, independence, and community connection throughout 2026.
Founded along the scenic Tred Avon River in Easton, Londonderry was created with a forward-thinking vision: a place where retirees could live life on their own terms, remain independent, and have a meaningful voice in the community they call home. Today, that vision continues to thrive through the cooperative model, where residents are not just neighbors — they are owners and active participants in shaping the community’s future.
“For 35 years, Londonderry has been a place where neighbors become friends, independence is celebrated, and community truly comes first,” said Christine Harrington, Londonderry on the Tred Avon CEO. “This milestone gives us the opportunity to celebrate our history while continuing to invest in the community and region that have supported us from the beginning.”
Celebrating the Past — and the Future
A series of events and activities throughout the year will mark Londonderry’s 35th anniversary.
One of the most meaningful tributes will be the creation of a community time capsule, which will be sealed during a special ceremony on Tuesday, March 24 at 2:30 p.m. in the Londonderry clubhouse. The capsule will include items and reflections that capture life at Londonderry today and will be opened in 2061, giving future residents a glimpse into this moment in the community’s history. The ceremony will include opening remarks, resident reflections, the presentation of time capsule items, and light refreshments.
Beginning in April, Londonderry will also feature a special historical display in its community cabinet, showcasing photographs, documents, and memorabilia that highlight the community’s rich history and evolution over the past three and a half decades.
The anniversary celebrations will culminate with a 35th Anniversary Celebration on September 24, bringing together residents, families, staff, and friends of the community. Additional details and invitations will be shared later this year.
Giving Back to the Community
In honor of its 35th anniversary, Londonderry is also launching a year-long initiative to support local charities and nonprofit organizations that serve the Eastern Shore.
Each month throughout the year, Londonderry will highlight a different charity that holds special meaning to residents and staff. Residents, families, and friends will be invited to donate items or contribute funds, and for select initiatives Londonderry will match monetary donations.
Recent efforts have included donation drives supporting organizations such as the Talbot Humane Society and the Londonderry–Satellite Rotary Club Senior Supply Drive.
“Our residents have always believed strongly in supporting the communities around us,” said Harrington. “This anniversary is the perfect way to extend that spirit of generosity and celebrate the partnerships that make the Eastern Shore such a special place.”
More Than a Home
For 35 years, Londonderry has offered residents a unique blend of resort-style retirement living, waterfront beauty, and an active community lifestyle — all within a resident-owned cooperative structure that empowers residents to have a voice in the place they call home.
“Many of us came to Londonderry for the beautiful setting along the Tred Avon,” said Barbara Pratt, a Londonderry resident. “But what keeps people here is the sense of community. Celebrating 35 years is really about celebrating the friendships and shared experiences that have grown here.”
As Londonderry celebrates this milestone year, the community continues to look ahead to the next chapter of waterfront retirement living on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
