Philip Brownrigg

Londonderry veteran Philip Brownrigg

Philip Brownrigg

  • Service Branch: United States Army
  • Service Dates: 1958–1961
  • Stationed: Ft. Eustis, Virginia
  • Rank: Sergeant

At age 18, Philip left college and enlisted in the Army; he was assigned to Ft. Eustis in Virginia, and also spent three months in Labrador. He worked as a deckhand on tug boats on the Inland Waterway and also in Goose Bay, Labrador. At his time of discharge he had attained the rank of Sergeant; he resumed his college education at Virginia Tech, and later, at the Darden School at the University of Virginia.
Philip’s time of service was a period between WW11 and the Vietnam War, something he recognized as a lull between the fighting. He did appreciate the opportunity to work on the water, and he values the lessons learned during those years.
