Bob Gosser

  • Service Branch: United States Army
  • Service Dates: 1946–1948
  • Stationed: Kunsan Air Base, Korea
  • Rank: Corporal
BOB GOSSER enlisted the Army while still in high school. Upon graduation in 1946, Bob went to basic training at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.  Bob signed up to become eligible for the G.I. bill because he saw it as the only way he would be able to go to college.  After basic, he bounced his way across country, with short-term stops at Camp Attberry and Camp Stoneman, ending up in Oakland, California to ship-out for a tour of duty in Korea. Bob was assigned to an infantry unit in Kunsan at an abandoned air field which would eventually become a U.S. air Base. During his two-year stent he was assigned to a construction battalion and was responsible for inventory control of construction equipment and building materials. He held the rank of Corporal.

Bob returned stateside in 1948 and enrolled at Bowling Green University in Ohio. He ultimately transferred to Kent State University from which he received his Bachelors’ degree in 1951.
